I got a lot of positive feedback from my latest series Broken Heart, Broken Wallet Part Iand Part II. If you read them and regularly keep up with the site you know I usually do goals for the month and challenge myself to complete them all. I really have been feeling unmotivated lately and thought about just “skipping” goals this month, but isn’t one the main tenets of goal setting being consistent? The sweet comments I got from readers (and the presents! Thanks Kathleen and Catherine!)have been helping me get through.
I mean, I’m not saying it’s going to be the most gangbuster month for goals ever, but I’m going to set some to help put some normalcy back in my life.
Life Goals
So I have this beautiful, new apartment-pretty perfect in every way, and it is empty! And by empty I mean….I have no furniture except for my bed, and a desk chair. Care to visit? Ha. It seem so slutty to have people come over and be like, “Hey wanna sit…on my bed?”
So goals include:
Get Furniture
Decorate
Creative, right?
Get back into a work out routine.
This is my #1 priority this coming week, I already feel like poo and peanut butter mixed together in a bowl, bad food, binge drinking and an abnormal sleep schedule certainly don’t help. Exercise can go a long way, so I’m going to hit the gym hard this weekend.
Draft two chapters of book-Oh, L Bee and the Moneytree is most DEFINITELY becoming a book, full of my biggest and most hilarious stories, financial woes, and heartbreaks. I just….have to write it. It is national novel writing month, but I was unable to sign up for the #NaNoWriMo challenge. Poo! So I’m going to set up the achievable goal of writing two chapters of this book.
Prep short story for writer’s workshop- My dad and my brother are both authors (published, I am not…just a blogger) and we are doing an informal workshop over Thanksgiving while we are all home and going to critique one another’s pieces. I have a short story I haven’t touched since August and I want to dust this off and make it presentation ready. I am really excited about this!
Financial Goals
Make at least 300.00 per month on the blog- this was a goal I had set wayyy back in July when I first thought about monetizing the site. 300.00 has been my monthly goal, and I tripled it last month, but I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself. Especially since I have less time to pursue ad leads this month. Anyone wanna sponsor a post or purchase an ad? My sidebar is looking pretty lonely….email me! lauren@lbeeandthemoneytree.com.
Pay off my credit cards-I had to put a deposit and first months rent up front at the beginning of the month, so I didn’t pay off the entire balance of my credit cards at the first of November. I know! I’m a personal finance blogger-this is so BAD! But chillax, it’s on the to-do list. I don’t even want to tell you what the balance is, or what it’s going to be after my Homegoods shopping binge posts.
Start saving for Christmas- It is right around the corner!
Blog Goals
Hit 9,000 pageviews- Come on guys, help me get here this month! I’ve already been aggressively sharing and commenting this month so hopefully I won’t be disappointed.
700 Twitter Followers- A modest goal, but I also probably don’t have time this month to hawk my writing on twitter. I appreciate the most recent followers though, we are already 1/5 of the way there! Yay!
Make Facebook, Pinterest, and Youtube mediums look Amazeballs.
250 Facebook Likes - So I am running this giveaway, and it occurred to me that I have no posted a picture of what the AMAZING pink wallet looks like:
I also tweaked the giveaway in an effort to entice more entries. If you already entered be sure to tweet about it to get more entries! I am also extending this giveaway until I hit 200 likes…so the faster I get there, the faster you get your wallet and the paypal cash. Seems fair, right?

Hi, my name is Lauren but I'm known to those nearest and dearest as L. Bee. After twenty-five years on the planet I have worked in a lot of industries, moved to many different cities, and made almost every money mistake you can make.Join me on my journey as I navigate my twenties and try not to pick my "money tree" bare.

So sorry about your breakup, I hope you can make a cozy home out of your new place. I suck at decorating and being creative, I once spent a couple of months with just a mattress and a piano while I earned the money for more. I remember a few pizza parties on the floor!

I am trying hard to focus all of my energy on putting the new apartment together. It seems never-ending, but I did get a couch this weekend so…all is well that ends well
That’s really cool that your from a family of writers. If we get to watch antique road show at my family’s house that is considered some serious culture.

Bahaha. It’s funny how it turned out that way, but we all write different things: my dad writes fiction, I do short stories, and my brother writes really awesome poems!
I’m so sorry about everything that is happening. You can always bother me in an email if you’d like! Good luck with your goals

Sorry to hear not everything is going well… Your blog on the other hand is amazing!!! Seriously keeps me amused. Oh and btw can I get a signed copy of the book?

I will send a signed copy to all my blogger friends! You will get one!
Good luck on the goals, Lbee! As for fitness, I find it’s like finance and I’m so much better at sticking with it if I track it =)

I have a trainer, who is holding my hand for the time being and keeping me consistent, but I can’t afford to keep him on forever, especially now that I’m living alone.
Sorry that not everything is going well. I do agree with the working out, that always seems to help take my mind off of things that might be bothering me. That’s awesome you’re working on writing a book. My wife is a writer as well and she has a number of ideas and just needs to start on a few of them. Good luck on the goals!

Thanks John! Your kind words mean a lot.
Poo and peanut butter mixed together? lol. It sounds like you are well on your way to healing. I will be setting a “word count” writing goal for myself soon and track my progress through my sidebar. If I don’t, I won’t be nearly as productive. (Hey, it’s not my fault us writers are so easily distracted.)

Let me know how you set the word count tracker up–is there a widget for that?
Working out is the best mental break. Personally, I love to swim -because it means I can’t really think about anything but breathing and staying afloat. Clearly I am an amazing swimmer…
My dad is a published author too, and I have always wanted to write a (non-fiction) book with him. We (will) have the same career, and I think it would be awesome to co-author something in our field.

I’d love to swim too, but my hair couldn’t take the beating. Girl problmes I suppose. I’m trying to get comfortable enough with the idea of letting my dad read my stuff-sometimes I worry it’s too personal, things about me he wouldn’t want to know! LoL.
“Unmotivated” or not, your blog has been consistent, well-written, and entertaining. (Which is no small feat considering all you have going on these days. ) And you’re setting higher goals on top of that?! Well done.
I’m not even a personal finance blogger, but really enjoy reading your stuff!
I’ve spoken with a couple of people today and they’re all feeling drained. It could have something to do with the daylight savings time-change added onto all these low-pressure weather systems we’re having in the North East.
Thanks Edward! And thanks for linking your site, now I can get to know you guys a little better.
I will buy your book if you write it =)
Good job on your stats! I hope you have a great weekend!

I always find working out gets me in a much better mood. That’s awesome your amount tripled from what you expected! I would love the same thing to happen. Good luck with your November goals!

LB-
I think it is awesome that you are setting goals and moving forward in life.. That is really the only choice at this point.. Getting a workout routine rocking, focusing on writing, and working towards growth, is a nice start!!

Read the book, girl! I fell off the workout bandwagon back in September when I went through a breakup — and have not come back. Please tell me what the inside of a gym looks like.
