Valentine’s Day is the time of the year to really go crazy and spoil your loved one. You want to go all out; splash the cash on a top notch meal and be inundated with expensive presents, right? Wrong. Well, kind of wrong. Of course, it’s great to treat your partner and it’s even better to be spoiled rotten but it needn’t cost you an arm and a leg. In fact you don’t even have to go out at all to have a great time on Valentine’s Day; the point is there are plenty of ways to make your loved one feel special without having to empty your bank account. Read on for my tips on how to have a brilliant valentine’s day without spending a fortune!
Tips for a Great Valentine’s Day without Spending a Fortune
So let’s start the evening with a guaranteed winner: make a homemade meal for your partner. You could even spend time cooking it together, perhaps one of you could do the main course and the other could do the dessert. Pick one of your favorite tasty meals – something that takes a good amount of prep and really shows you’ve made the effort. It’ll be worth it. Just be careful not to go overboard with any spices or chilli – the last thing you want on Valentine’s Day is to end up teary-eyed looking up at the blurry outline of medical scrubs!
If you make it through the meal without any casualties, snuggle up on the sofa to watch either romantic comedies or scary films. They seem like an odd combination to suggest, but rom-coms are just the ticket to get you in a lovey-dovey mood, while horror films pose the perfect opportunity to get really close. Surround the room with candles to create a relaxed atmosphere.
If you want to treat your boyfriend to something really special, you could dress up for him in the bedroom. A popular outfit is a nurse tunic – something to do with the Florence Nightingale effect, probably. Even better though, get him to dress up for you. Ryan Gosling face mask, anyone?
You could also give each other massages or share a bath together. It never ends up as romantic as the films, so don’t set yourself up for failure. Although it’ll be intimate, your boyfriend might collapse in a fit of giggles during a massage or fart in the bath. And make sure you don’t get the end with the taps – not only is it incredibly uncomfortable, you’re repeatedly frozen and then scalded.
Finally, for fail-safe romance, watch the sunset together from the garden or the local park. Add a glass or two of bubbly to the mix and, despite the earlier bodily functions and hospital trips, you’ve got the perfect Valentine’s evening right there.
Are you planning to do any of these?
