Did everyone have a good Labor Day? I did, but it felt like a normal weekend for me since I always have Sundays/Mondays off. Made it feel less special this year, but I did say Happy Birthday to my Dad and hit up the lake for awhile. It doesn’t officially feel like fall until Labor Day, and then it seems like everything switches to warp speed as Fall approaches. I did take some time to think about my goals for the month and here is what I came up with:
Life Goals
1.) Stay away from the candy bars and beer at the concession stand at work- I hit ALL of my workout goals for last month, but only managed to lose three pounds. I blame the Snickers bar I eat for dinner every Thursday, Friday, Saturday night. I shiver to think of the damage if I hadn’t been running. So far this month I’ve been good and even started participating in the company yoga class so we will see how this month goes. P.S. I’m licking the chocolate off my fingers as I write this.
2.) Make Date Night with Drewski a Priority- between his full time job and full time course load, my two jobs, this blog, and our dog’s ailing health we haven’t made romance a priority. I’m beginning to miss him hardcore, and we live in the same house! So I’m resolving to have at least one “date night” with him per week. You know-the kind where we put away the cell phones, leave the house, and put on real clothes. And if he’s reading this I promise not to wear my crusty yoga pants. Here’s hoping!
3.)Be better with my time management, and limit SVU watching to three episodes a week- The more stressed out I am, the less productive I get. While I get used to my new schedules and workloads I’ve been coming home and tuning out with my poon out in front of the television. My guilty pleasure? Law and Order SVU of course. I feel like it’s predictability is the only stable thing in my life right now. Since things are becoming a bit more routine I need to spend my free time nourishing my relationships and working on the blog instead of blankly staring at the TV screen.
4.)Order business cards for my blog- This is a “gimme” to keep me from feeling like a loser.
Financial Goals
1.) Begin saving for our December vacation- I need 1k by December 15th!
2.) Contribute to all three savings accounts listed under my “goals” section: This is my first month of “real” income since April, so there is no excuse not to put money in these accounts!
3.) Watch my cell phone minutes like a freaking hawk-I went over last month. I don’t have the bill yet, but I know that’s gonna sting.
Blog Goals
1.) Get to 275 twitter followers-I had a bang-on month in August. I gained over 100 new followers. I don’t know if that kind of growth is doable for a second time, but I am sure gonna try. In an attempt to set realistic goals, I set the bar at 275. Only 65 more to go as of 9/6!
2.) Get to 100 facebook likes-I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to “Like” L Bee and the Money Tree on facebook. I also appreciate that I can put up normal person statuses on my personal page now and reserve the L Bee page for blog related factoids. I think I only have 45 more to go! Tell your friends! I will be doing another giveaway soon on the blog “Messy. Dirty. Hair” (September 10th! Mark your calendars) so it’s even more incentive to like me on facebook. I’ll be giving away a VS giftcard this time!
3.) Hit 5,000 pageviews-We can do this! I know we can! I’m about to enter a Yakezie challenge soon and will soon be delving into the realm of Alexa Rankings. Wish me luck!

Hi, my name is Lauren but I'm known to those nearest and dearest as L. Bee. After twenty-five years on the planet I have worked in a lot of industries, moved to many different cities, and made almost every money mistake you can make.Join me on my journey as I navigate my twenties and try not to pick my "money tree" bare.

Good luck with your goals! Setting them makes you accountable, which is really positive. You are right to dedicate more time to your other half, that is a priority. Time management gets easier one step at a time. I find that websites like Zen Habits are really inspiring when you see that the writer has six kids, a wife, writes blogs and books and exercises and does countless other things, yet it was a slow process!

I will have to check that out. I’m already thinking about adding a half hour of meditation to my workout five times a week. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Good luck with your goals! We went over our minutes last month also
Those look like some great goals… and I had to laugh when I saw your addiction to SVU. What is it about that show? I will admit that I’ve watched way more episodes than I probably should have since we subscribed to Hulu and all the back episodes are on there =)

lurve the SVU. I can’t bring myself to watch last season because detective stabler wasn’t on it.
Hey L. Bee! So much to say!
1. I was an SVU addict for a number of years. The only thing that stopped me was running out of seasons on Netflix! It is definitely my go-to distraction from sadness.
2. Missing your dude when you live in the same house. I feel you! We had the same kind of week and decided halfway through to drop some after-work activities so we could just be together.
3. You are killing it on Twitter and Facebook!! Please share your secrets, as that is my #1 downfall as a blogger. I get tons of page hits but can’t break 50 on either social media platforms!

Do you comment on a lot of sites? That helps with the twitter follows, and it also makes you feel like a part of a community! I also did a giveaway last month that helped get people to follow-it did wonders!
Totally do-able goals! Hubby and I also really need a date night sans baby. 3lbs in a month isn’t bad at all don’t be too hard on yourself! Good Luck!

Thank you, thank you!
Date night is key! My fiancée and I dedicate whole weekends to each other where we don’t make any plans with friends or family, we just spend time together eating, cleaning, doing projects or whatever. It’s totally necessary in this fast paced world we live in.

I wish we could do whole weekends. It’ll probably have to wait until 2013
When are you getting married?
Nice job with your goals. It’s always good to finally get a steady stream of income! So, I would love to like your FB page but here’s the problem. When you like a page, it shows up for other people to see it. If my friends happen to click your link and then somehow see me comment and go to my page, that scares me a little…I wish there was a way to like the page without anyone seeing it. Know of a way? Good luck with your new goals!

Argh! I don’t and I totally understand your dillema if you blog anonymously. Thanks for the thought though!
Great goals! They seem very doable. I also need to work on more date nights with the hubby without the kiddo

I have Sunday and Mondays off always too so I felt the same way as you. AND it was my dad’s birthday that weekend as well !!! Weird. I think I need to join you on goal #1, I may or may not be eating chocolate in excessive amounts lately. Good luck with the goals.

Business cards! I need to do that too. Wow 100 Twitter followers in a month, that’s awesome!

Yeah-I couldn’t believe it! It was very exciting!! I need to get business cards ordered this week so I can take them to a writing conference I’m going to with my dad.
Hi LB– Have a great weekend!
At my work, there is a huge stash of candy and snack food that I have to fight with all of my might to avoid.. The problem is when things get stressful, that junk food looks even better!

Business cards for my blog is something I did not think about yet, but could be a good idea for networking. I like your goals for facebook likes and twitter followers, I will head over to your facebook page now and like it. For some reason I thought you were already in the Yakezie challenge? Your Alex rank is pretty close to 200k already!

It is? That is such exciting news. Haha. No I’m not in the challenge yet, but once I get into a groove with both of my new jobs I plan on entering.
As for business cards people are always asking me about my blog or what the name of it is. It’s so annoying to have to spell out “bee” like “B-E-E”.
These look like great goals! Good luck =)

You can buy/drink beer at work? That must be interesting. LOL
3 pounds might not seem like much to you, but the actually mass of 3 pounds of fat is really nasty. Plus, if you wouldn’t have been trying, you would still be 3 pounds heavier this month. Gotta appreciate the small stuff too.
Good luck on your goals, they sound doable.

I have to make a goals list at the beginning of every month! It’s a great feeling to accomplish them.
